Did you know that on March 29, 1886 Coca-Cola was invented by John Pemberton at the Eagle Drug and Chemical Company in Columbus Georgia?
It was originally a coa wine, but due to prohibition, was developed into the non-alcoholic version Coca-Cola. It was marketed as having medicinal qualities because at the time many believed that carbonated water was good for the health. As most people know, Coca-Cola’s original formula contained cocaine derived from the coca leaf and caffeine from the kola nut. Now however, a cocaine-free coca leaf extract is used. The Kola nut is still used for flavoring and as the caffeine source.
Today, Coke is sold in more than 200 countries around the world.
Happy Birthday Coke!
